"St Andrew’s Beach on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula is unusual in that it is one of the few locations in Australia where construction is permitted right on the foreshore. Normally the coastline is protected as government owned land however in St Andrew’s there are buildings sited on the beach which face the Southern Ocean. Our site is elevated and exposed to magnificent ocean views and in winter, gale force winds. The house has a protective outer skin made from oxidised steel industrial floor grating which hinge open to form brise soleil shutters. The building is raised on columns with parking and storage underneath. The programme called for a simple three bedroom family house. The plan has two discrete elements – a communal kitchen/meals/living space and a bedroom block. Each element is connected via a promenade deck. To move from element to element and from room to room one has to go outside and then inside thereby being exposed to the heat of summer and the extremes of winter. This strategy was requested by the client as a way of using the weekend house to re-humanise oneself after a week of office work. It serves to de-sanitise the controlled 22degree C built environment to which we have all grown accustomed and to remind the occupants of their own frailty. This building forms part of our on-going research into the evolution of an Australian architecture in the Asian region. Fragments of the outback homestead – the sunroom, the breezeway, the sleep-out are re-organised into an abstract verandah which shelters and protects the occupants while enhancing the fluidity of the spaces and their loosely defined nature. ‘Inside’ and ‘outside’ are deliberately ambiguous. The external environment is filtered through a series of layers so that harsh extremes are tempered and the occupants are held and nurtured by the building."

Cependant, je te pose une question: Tu ne crois pas que d'autres épautistes archtecte pourrai participé avec des oeuvres eux aussi, comme ça, ça va être plus riche, et ton sujet sera toujours animé, même quand pour une raison ou une autre, tu sera absent ???.

Pour la construction Kho, je ne suis pas architecte, cependant, une pareil transparence en pleine nature, me fais rêver.

TURBULENCE HOUSE
NM, United States, 2001-2005

Adjacent to adobe houses built by the artist Richard Tuttle, this small construction sits atop a windy desert mesa. It is imagined like the tip of an iceberg indicating a much larger mass below. The form allows turbulent wind to blow through its center. The stressed skin and aluminum rib construction is digitally prefabricated in Kansas City then bolted together on site. A total of 31 metal panels, each with a unique shape are fabricated to form the "shell" of the house. The second Turbulence House, made for an exhibition in Vicenza, Italy, is in a private sculpture park in Italy. The metal fabricator utilizes digital definition combined with craftsmanship to produce intricate shapes. By means of parametric logic, materials can be converted into engineered assemblies with an accuracy once considered impossible

We´ve seen tons of pictures of both the exterior and the inner court of Herzog & de Meuron’s bird nest in Beijing during the Olympics. But what we haven’t seen is the intermediate space inside the nest fibers, a space which looked amazing on the early renderings.

But thanks to Edgar Gonzalez, we can see the colorful inners of the Bird’s Nest through Manuel Ocaña’s Flickr.

Background and needs





The Project is located on one of the hillsides that have been affected by the violence since the 80´s because of the drug traffic network that operates in the city of Medellin. It is part of the government’s social master plan program to give equal economic and social opportunities to the population.

The program asked for a building with library, training room, administration room and auditorium on a unique volume. The proposal was to fragment the program in three groups: The library, the rooms, and the auditorium; then join them with a bottom platform that allows flexibility and autonomy, improving the people’s participation considering each volume operates independently.


Justification of the adopted composed solution



Medellín is geographically mountainous.

The city is located in the north of Los Andes mountain ridge, one of the most topographically broken places of Colombia. This geography defines the identity and the image of the city. This image is precisely what the project aims at, it intends to integrate itself into the landscape and become an interpretation of it.

Architecture as landscape

More than a building, it proposes the construction of an operative geography that belongs to the valley like a mechanism of organization of the program and the zone, showing the unknown directions of the irregular mountain contours, not like a metaphor, but like an organization of the form in the place, a folded building cut like the mountains. A landscape building that redefines the folded mountain structure in form and space, nullifying the idea of the landscape like a background and encouraging the ambiguity building-landscape.
Justification of the urban insertion of the proposal
